  2. APA EWS R540 Builders Tips: Proper Handling and Storage of Glulam Beams cover image

APA EWS R540 Builders Tips: Proper Handling and Storage of Glulam Beams (Download)

    This is a free download.

APA EWS trademarked glued laminated timber (glulam) must be stored properly and handled with care to assure optimum performance. When glulam beams leave the mill, they are often protected with sealants, primers or wrappings that are specified in the order. Care must be taken during loading, unloading and transporting as well as in the yard and on the job site to protect the members from damage. This standard is refererence in the 2012 IBC.

  4. APA PDS Supplement 1--90 Design and Fabrication of Plywood Curved Panels (revised 1995) cover image

APA PDS Supplement 1--90 Design and Fabrication of Plywood Curved Panels (revised 1995) (Download)

    This is a free download.

This publication presents the recommended method for the design and fabrication of curved plywood roof panels spanning between load-bearing supports so that the stresses developed act circumferentially around the curve. Working stresses and other design criteria are given in the Plywood Design Specification (PDS). This recommended design method is based on standard engineering formulas, and was confirmed by tests recorded in APA Laboratory Report No. 77, Plywood Arch Panels. This standard is referenced in the 20012 IBC.

APA PDS Supplement 3--90 Design and Fabrication of Plywood Stressed-skin Panels (revised 1996) (Download)

    This is a free download.

This publication presents the recommended method for the design and fabrication of glued plywood stressed-skin panels. Working stresses and other design criteria are given in the Plywood Design Specification (PDS). References are also made to the American Forest & Paper Association publication entitled National Design Specification for Wood Construction (NDS). The recommended design method is based on U.S. Forest Products Laboratory Report No. R1220, supplemented with tests by APA – The Engineered Wood Association. The most extensive of these tests are reported in Laboratory Report No. 82. This standard is refererence in the 2012 IBC.

APA PDS Supplement 5--08 Design and Fabrication of All-plywood Beams (revised 2008) (Download)

    This is a free download.

This publication formerly was issued as Research Report 124-A, Form D410. It presents recommended methods for the design and fabrication of staple-glued all-plywood beams. Allowable stresses and other design criteria are given in Part 1, and in APA’s Plywood Design Specification (PDS). References are also made to the National Design Specification for Wood Construction (NDS), published by the American Forest & Paper 0Association. Part 2 of this publication covers beam fabrication. Beam design and fabrication recommendations are based on tests conducted by APA, as described in Research Report 124, All-Plywood Beams for Mobile Homes. The tests showed that such beams comply with the structural load test criteria in the Federal Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standards. These standards and subsequent amendments are published in the Federal Register by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and include procedures and criteria for conducting and evaluating structural load tests on assemblies such as all-plywood beams. This standard is refererence in the 2012 IBC.
